Yin Yang Skincare was born in 1973 when Katie May formulated a range of pure plant based skin care products. Using only pure botanical ingredients, organic where possible, and minerals such as zinc which are known to be important for natural skin function, Yin Yang products remain free of chemical additives, petroleum derivatives and parabens preservatives.

Human skin is in a constant process of renewal as young fresh cells from the dermis migrate up to the surface epidermal layer to flatten, harden and finally peel off. Yin Yang skincare products have been specifically designed to support this process, with amino acids from organic soya, and botanically sourced vitamins to nourish and protect the developing new skin cells, and with light botanical oils and pure water to hydrate the protective surface layer. Because acidification is important for the maintenance of the skin's barrier function, all Yin Yang skincare products have a p H value of 4,5 – 5,0 which is perfect for the health of the skin’s protective microflora. This so called “acid mantle” is the first line of defence for the skin and the body beneath.

For advice about the skin's bio-chemistry & physiology we are supported by leading cell biologist, Professor Desmond Tobin of Bradford University – an international authority on the skin’s barrier function. Dr Alison Layton, Consultant Dermatologist for Harrogate & North Yorkshire NHS Trust provides advice about common dermatological conditions including acne and rosacea. Dr Layton is a member of the European Expert Panel for Acne and the Global Alliance Steering Group for Acne.
