Dr Alison Layton
Consultant Dermatologist, Harrogate and District NHS Foundation

Dr Alison Layton was appointed as Consultant Dermatologist at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust in 1995.
Dr Layton has a particular interest in androgen mediated disorders including acne and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
As a result of her interests, Dr Layton sits on the Executive Council of PCOS UK, the European Expert and Global Alliance Panel for Acne. Her expertise has attracted invitations to run many clinical trials investigating therapies for the common inflammatory dermatoses including acne, rosacea and psoriasis.
Basic science research examining immunological and microbiological aspects of acne is also a keen area of interest and Dr Layton has built up collaborations with the University of Leeds and School of Biology in York.
Dr Layton is an invited reviewer for the prodigy guidelines relating to rosacea and acne as well as for a number of NICE guidelines embracing other dermatological conditions.
Dr Layton actively publishes and is invited reviewer for peer reviewed journals on a regular basis. She recently wrote chapters for the eighth edition of Rook’s Textbook of Dermatology and for the Oxford Textbook of Medicine on "Disorders of Sebaceous glands".
As Trust lead for Research and Development she keeps abreast of research developments and governance issues.
